And although the more open structure makes the game more accessible it also lessens the sense of progression. The new setting may be beautiful to look at (and really the graphics are amazing, despite the open world necessitating a drop to 30 frames per second and a surprising amount of texture pop-in) but there’s less variation in scenery than the first game. You can now play every course in the game with other players, and the new Road Trip mode strings together four separate events to create a perfect online structure that is just the right length for a meaningful, but not too time-consuming, competition with friends.īut despite all this good work there’s still a problem with a lack of variety. The sequel doesn’t really do anything new with the concept but simply by taking better advantage of the open world areas it feels a lot more alive and purposeful. The most significant change to Forza Horizon 2 though is the multiplayer, which was surprisingly undercooked in the original. Although the replacement Bucket List challenges are just as good, as you’re tasked with completing James Bond style car stunts or Burnout style races against oncoming traffic. Surprisingly the PR stunts from the first game, which were always the best bit, have been ditched.
Together with earned experience points there’s a lot more emphasis on good old-fashioned point scoring than before, which in turns makes the social features feel like more than just a fashionable gimmick.

These points are then used to open up a simple skill tree full of (to be honest rather gimmicky) driving perks. Other useful additions include the revamped scoring system, that’s now a lot more similar to Project Gotham Racing’s beloved Kudos system it rewards you for almost everything you do – from drifting and slipstreaming to performing doughnuts and breaking the track-side scenery. Even better are the new cross country races, which are so much fun they could have easily been the focus of the whole game. Especially the new off-road racing, which thanks to the surprisingly destructible scenery is an absolute riot even when you’re just exploring a hub. The story mode is quick and sweet, and although there’s a few things outside of it (3 optional challenges, smash-able billboards, and hunting down achievements that you didn’t get from the story) you can realistically finish all it has to offer in a few hours.Ĭonclusion: This is definitely built well enough to persuade me into making the jump into Forza Horizon and seeing what else it has to offer. Tej takes you through the journey of collecting the cars, and starts you off with the iconic Fast and the Furious black Dodge Charger. The game also features a considerable amount of voice over work from Chris ‘Ludacris’ Bridge’s character Tej. The diversity of the cars gives a great sampling of the different types of races available in the larger Forza world, and The game features a short story mode that challenges you to collect ten iconic cars from the new Fast and the Furious movie, from an offroad jeep to the fast and furious Bugatti Veyron.

I haven’t played Forza Horizon, but this game seems to showcase what’s best about the game in a bite-sized, free package.

Not as much of a movie tie-in as it is a welcome introduction for those new to the Forza world.
In short: A free (or 10$) look at the Forza Horizon 2 combined with tie in to the Fast and the Furious.
